Nut Spreads

Many kinds of seeds and nuts can be ground fine and used as butters or spreads on rolls, bread, or muffins. Sweetness can be provided by adding a banana or ground dates or other dried fruit. Nuts contain healthy fats and no trans fats, and walnuts are high in n-3 fatty acids. Here are some recipes for seed butters and nut spreads.

Seed Butters

The distinction between seeds and nuts is somewhat loose. Their names are often interchanged. Both can be ground and used as spreads or butters. Seeds and nuts are heart-healthy.

Ingredients
1 cup of nuts, raw
1/2 cup water
Pinch of salt to taste

Directions
Lightly roast the desired amount of raw nuts in flat pan in oven at 350 degrees F. Try almonds, cashews, walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, etc. Put 1/2 cup water in blender. Add nuts or seeds of any kind until the desired consistency of butter is reached. Add a pinch of salt and flavorings if desired. Adding a date or two or a few raisins is also good.
